Welcome, welcome!!
I’m MaMa LaLa—a mother, writer, and someone who spent years untangling myself from expectations of who I “should” be.
For a long time, I believed that becoming a mother meant losing parts of myself—that the trade-off for raising beautiful, grounded children was my own identity, my own voice, my own becoming. But somewhere along the way, I realized that wasn’t true. And I realized I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
I’ve always found putting pen to paper therapeutic, but I started writing this subject matter because I needed a place to think out loud. To ask the hard questions. To explore what it means to grow into yourself, not away from yourself, even as your life changes shape around you. In all honesty, with or without kids, womanhood often brings about events and people who challenge the notion of who you are and what you believe.
The Rooted Phoenix was created as a result of these contemplative thoughts and a sincere desire to remind other women that you can be rooted AND rising. Grounded AND transforming. A mother AND a whole woman.
That being said, you may feel at home here if you or someone you know is…
- Navigating the identity shifts that come with motherhood
- Searching for something deeper than surface-level productivity hacks
- Curious about personal growth, not as a performance, but as a practice
- Ready to stop shrinking and start unfolding
I’m not here to give you a 10-step formula or tell you there’s one right way to do any of this. I’m here to walk alongside you, to share what I’m learning, and to remind you that your becoming matters. Your journey is a marathon (typically to an unknown, foreign land time and time again), not a sprint. As cliché as the saying may be, it is founded in truth.
You don’t have to choose between being a good mother and being fully yourself. You can be both. You are
both.
A Little More About Me
I live in the beautiful natural state with my husband, son, and calico fur baby girl. When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me making a list, cooking, meditating or researching something I find interesting. Don’t worry though, there will be much more to share and learn from one another if you find yourself staying for a little while.
I believe in:
- Stories that tell the truth
- Questions that open doors
- Slow, intentional growth
- The power of one conversation to change everything
I don’t believe in:
- Hustle culture disguised as self-care
- Motherhood as martyrdom
- Perfection as a prerequisite for being seen
